Cubs should beat Mets debutant
Walker Lockett is scheduled to make his New York Mets debut tonight as he leads his side in to a game against the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are without the injured Kyle Hendricks so will use Tyler Chatwood from the bullpen, but the strength of their batting lineup should mean the Chicago fans see their team win. There are five Chicago batters who have hit 15 or more home runs this season as the Cubs have developed in to one of the most dangerous offences in the league.
Javy Baez and Anthony Rizzo lead the team and will fancy their chances of adding to their impressive home run totals. Look for a comfortable Chicago win.
Odorizzi on a roll
Tonight, the Kansas City Royals become the latest team to try and beat a Jake Odorizzi-inspired Minnesota Twins, a challenge very few have succeeded in doing this year. Odorizzi, an eight-year veteran, has won 10 straight starts on his way to a league leading wins total. Minnesota have won 48 games as they sit top of the AL Central backed by a high-quality pitching staff and an impressive batting lineup.
With Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler both capable of terrorising opposing pitchers, the lowly Royals will be in trouble and could be on the end of a heavy defeat.
Aces set to duel in Oakland
The marquee pitching matchup of the night is, inarguably, in Oakland. The Athletics start Frankie Montas (9-2, 2.85 ERA) while the visiting Tampa Bay Rays send Charlie Morton (8-1, 2.37 ERA) to the hill. Both men have been superb throughout 2019 and with neither side setting the scoreboard alight we could be in for a low scoring game.
Tampa will be slight favourites, thanks to their superior record but the game will be tight with runs at a real premium. Look for Morton to pitch around the talented Khris Davis and close out a Tampa Bay win.
