Martin Keown believes Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is as good as any striker in Europe on current form.
The Gabon international was looking to score in successive Premier League games to continue his excellent start to the new season.
Aubameyang netted Arsenal’s winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park last weekend.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery started Aubameyang alongside his friend and striker partner Alexandre Lacazette for the visit of Burnley on Saturday lunchtime.
The French striker broke the deadlock in the first half with a clinical finish before Ashley Barnes levelled ahead of half-time for the visitors.
However, Aubameyang netted a superb winner as he placed a finish from outside the area to secure a 2-1 victory over Burnley at The Emirates.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Aubameyang is one of the top strikers in Europe on current form.
“He is basically saying give me the ball and I’ll give you the goals you need,” Keown told BT Sport. Look at this [goal] for quality. It’s a beautiful finish. He makes it look so easy.”
Keown added: “Well I think he’s as good as any player in Europe right now.”
Arsenal signed Aubameyang in a £58m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the 2018 January transfer window.
Aubameyang has netted 42 goals in 66 games in all competitions since his big-money move to Arsenal from Dortmund.
The Gunners have missed out on a top-four finish in their last three Premier League seasons.
Arsenal will make the trip to Liverpool FC in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Sunday 24 August.
